Buffy is incredibly proud to serve in a state that has been so outspoken in its commitment to protecting immigrant communities. In office, Buffy has upheld California’s status as a sanctuary state and its values of diversity, inclusion, and opportunity. We must ensure immigrants from all corners of the globe feel safe to build their lives here.

As Assemblywoman, Buffy will:

Expand Civil Rights for our Immigrant Communities
Buffy will protect the civil liberties and rights of every Californian, especially those who are being unjustly targeted due to their race or ethnicity. We must foster an environment where immigrants feel safe and are not afraid to go to work, attend school, or report crimes to our law enforcement.

Ramp up our Response to Hate Crimes

Buffy will work to facilitate better tracking of hate crimes and increase prosecution and consequences for perpetrators. Buffy will direct funding to equip the Attorney General’s office with the resources they need to continue the fight against Trump’s hateful administration. She will push to increase resources to support the number of counselors and social workers in our schools to help student victims.

Protect Immigrant Workers

As the Trump administration and ICE continue attacking our neighbors in unjustified raids and deportations, Buffy is dedicated to protecting the rights of our documented and undocumented immigrant workers. Immigrants are critical to our state's success.

Buffy will fight back on wage theft, exploitation, and substandard working conditions. All workers deserve justice and bargaining power, and immigrants are no exception.

Ensure Health Care for all Californians, Regardless of Residency Status

California is home to more immigrants than any other state, nearly 2 million of whom are uninsured. Donald Trump has threatened the ability of immigrants to access Medi-Cal and social programs. He aims to instill fear and prevent our neighbors from holding basic human rights. Buffy will continue her work in the legislature to ensure that all Californians, regardless of residency status, have access to the health care they deserve.

Ensure Quality Educational Opportunities for our Immigrant Students

Buffy believes schools should be safe havens for immigrant children, and foster an environment for growth, support, and inclusion.

She will improve the K-12 system by expanding English Language Learner interventions and multilingual educational programs to prevent language barriers in learning and better include our immigrant children.

In our higher education system, we must make it easier for undocumented students to afford college programs. Buffy will ensure campuses are a safe and accepting place for everyone to learn, while providing them the social services necessary to succeed.
