Buffy's career is centered on the belief that when people come together around their common interests, there isn’t anything they can’t accomplish. As an organizer, Buffy stood with organized labor to demand fair wages and healthcare for Wal-Mart employees. As Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement in the Obama Administration, she negotiated with stakeholders and advocates to pass the Affordable Care Act — standing up for millions of consumers and holding the health insurance industry accountable.
Buffy arrived in Sacramento ready to fight for people who have the deck stacked against them — she dove in headfirst, and in her first month began taking on Amazon, the world’s largest corporation. Buffy introduced legislation to close corporate loopholes and demanded clarity, fairness, and accountability.
In 2020, Buffy targeted the debt settlement industry to prevent unfair, deceptive practices that hurt Californians — stopping bad-faith financial actors and protecting consumers.
